It is proven that early detection is the best protection, which is why at ELFP we follow the American Cancer Society’s recommendation that all women over 40 years of age have a mammogram performed annually. We also have 3D Mammography available! Our Pink Ribbon Imaging Facility is home to two of the state’s Genius 3D Mammography machines. This advanced technology is proven to detect more invasive breast cancers and decrease inaccurate reports and false alarms of normal results. Also, you can receive 50% off a 3D screening.
Each gynecological exam typically includes a brief discussion of your overall health, followed by the main parts of an annual visit: a breast exam, a pelvic exam and a Pap Smear. Your doctor may also feel your throat to see if you your thyroid is enlarged and listen to your heart and lungs. Urine and blood samples may be taken if certain deficiencies or abnormalities are suspected. Be sure to ask about vaccinations and contraception counseling, which are both available during your visit.
Each location has its own lab that is able to process the results of a complete blood count (CBC), which provides information about your red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets that can help diagnose infections or other conditions. Our labs also process the results of urinalysis, which analyze urine samples to determine several different conditions or illness.
If you are a post-menopausal woman, you may be at risk for developing osteoporosis, which causes bones to lose calcium and other minerals that keep them strong. Osteoporosis can cause fractures in hips, forearms, and even in the spine. These fractures can severely limit physical activity and can often result in surgery or hospitalization.
Ultrasounds provide a way to capture images of organs and other structures inside your body by using high-frequency sound waves. They are one of the most trusted imaging processes that are not invasive. During an ultrasound, ultrasound waves are echoed off of tissues and converted into a picture called a sonogram. Our skilled and trained technicians and physicians perform all ultrasounds within our state-of-the-art Imaging Center.
A Pap Smear, also called a Pap Test, is a cervical cancer screening. These tests are an essential part of a woman’s routine health care and are part of our routine gynecological exams. They are the most effective way to detect abnormal cervical cells, including precancerous cervical lesions, as well as early cervical cancers.
