We know that routine healthcare isn’t always convenient.
A Pap Smear, also called a Pap Test, is a cervical cancer screening. These tests are an essential part of a woman’s routine health care and are part of our routine gynecological exams. They are the most effective way to detect abnormal cervical cells, including precancerous cervical lesions, as well as early cervical cancers.
Pap smears are offered at any of our nine primary care clinics, and results normally are received within 1-2 weeks of your exam. These clinics are open seven days a week and offer extended hours for added convenience.
How do I prepare?
Try to schedule the exam when you are not having your period, since it can interfere with the results of a Pap smear. But if you have new issues or increasing pelvic pain, a pelvic exam may be done while you are having your period. Do not use douches, tampons, vaginal medicines or vaginal sprays or powders for at least 24 hours. Do not have sex for 24 hours prior to the exam if you have abnormal vaginal discharge
